Nature of problem:This computer program constructs the normal form a nonintegrable Hamiltonian using Birkhoff-Gustavson Normal Form Theory. | ||

Solution method:A succession of canonical transformations is used to construct progressively "better" sets of action-angle variables. All of the transformations are performed symbolically. | ||

Restrictions:Varies with available RAM and type of computer. Use of the available RAM depends on the number of perturbation terms, the order to the perturbation terms, and the order of the solution requested. A solution to 10th order for 10 perturbation terms at orders all less than eight will require more that 8MB RAM on a Macintosh IIci. | ||

Running time:For the example given in test input, 160 seconds. |
